Christopher’s Challenge
To RV or Not To RV
– written by Christopher
Like many of us, in my mid 50’s I started becoming very worried and stressed out about an impending retirement with only a measly Social Security income. The idea of sitting in an apartment, watching TV and slowly wasting away until death, scared the ever-loving heck out of me. The perceived future of no more travel, no more vacations or living a good life was leading me to depression and anxiety.
Doing some YouTube research by watching videos, I happened upon Bob Wells at “Cheap RV Living” and hundreds of other RV “You Tubers.” I came to understand that retirement in an RV seemed very possible. This started many years of studying the many ways of living an RV centered life in retirement.
Beyond just living a more adventurous life, it also dawned on me that this life could fulfill many other priorities in my life.
Being a lifelong outdoors person, it met my desire to live in and love being in nature.
Being a spiritual person, I am able to live where I truly feel close to God, being surrounded by his awesome beauty and creation. Feeling the majesty of a mountain or being surrounded by a river or desert is enough of a connection to God for my spiritual side.
We are all worried about the deterioration of our environment and this way of life is possibly the best way to lower our destructive footprint in this world. In an RV we are able to produce electricity with the use of solar panels and batteries in a way that leaves hardly any trace of pollution. Living the RV life also reduces the use of personal water in one week to what most people use in one day. These are important reductions in environmental harm and we can relax and enjoy life knowing that we are helping to save the Earth and our immediate environs.
As far as health goes, living the RV life opens up quality of life benefits also. We are near places to go for a hike, kayak in lakes and rivers, mountain bike and just being outdoors and breathing the fresh air.
There are some of the nicest people in the world living this lifestyle and it is actually easier to make new friends and having the benefits of being in a society of like minded people. It is very normal for people living this lifestyle to make more lifelong friends than people living a “normal” life.
There are many different ways of living this exceptional RV life, all you need to do, is to do some research into RV living, choose the style that best suits your aspirations, your budget and what you feel is important in your life.
Whether you choose to live in a Van or larger RV, it is possible to live this lifestyle for around a thousand dollars per month, leading to a happier, healthier and more well-adjusted retired life.
So, Just get out here and do it!
